Provincial Disaster Management Authority

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is a Provincial Government organization, which deals with natural or man-made disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan. PDMA's mandate is to engage in activities concerning all four stages of Disaster Management Spectrum. As a sequel to the devastating earthquake of 8 October 2005, the National Disaster Management Ordinance was promulgated with a view to establish and regulate an enhanced and progressive Disaster Management Framework at the National, Provincial, and Local level for disaster mitigation, preparedness, and response.

Provincial Emergency Operation Center

PEOC is aimed to provide a platform and bridge for timely and accurate coordination between provincial government line departments and district administrations in time of emergencies and calamities. It provides a well coordinated response mechanism in time of disaster. It has strengthened the early warning system and has improved the disaster response capacities of district governments through a centralized command and control unit. PEOC has enhanced the capacities of the DDMUs through increased mobility.

Monsoon Preparedness Meeting Held Under Chairmanship of Director General PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (28-04-2025)

A meeting regarding the preparedness for the Monsoon Contingency Plan was held today at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), under the chairmanship of the Director General (DG) PDMA KP. All Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) from their respective districts participated in the session. The meeting was part of PDMA’s proactive disaster preparedness initiative aimed at strengthening coordination with district administrations to effectively define and implement contingency planning for the upcoming monsoon season. During the meeting, the Director Disaster Risk Management (DRM) briefed participants on future initiatives and outlined a coordination mechanism among stakeholders to ensure a timely and efficient response to any potential emergencies during the monsoon. The PDMA emphasized the importance of early preparedness, inter-agency collaboration, and the need for streamlined communication channels to mitigate the impact of potential disasters.

A comprehensive Monsoon Planning and Orientation Meeting was held today at PDMA, Peshawar, under the chairmanship of the Director, Disaster Risk Management (DRM), PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The session, organized as part of PDMA’s proactive disaster preparedness initiative, aimed to enhance coordination among stakeholders and refine contingency planning ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. Representatives from various government departments, NGOs, INGOs, and UN agencies attended the meeting.

GIZ,German International Cooperation Representative Ms. Mareike Bentfeld Visits PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Strengthen Risk-Informed Development Collaboration. Ms. Mareike Bentfeld, Representative of GIZ along with her team, visited PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and held a productive meeting with the Director General, PDMA. The meeting focused on reviewing the existing collaboration between GIZ and PDMA, and identifying ways to deepen efforts for sustainable and resilient development across the province. Ms. Mareike Bentfeld emphasized the critical importance of integrating Risk-informed development in all stages of planning, designing and implementation projects-whether at the provincial, departmental or district level. She stressed that proactive, anticipatory actions are essential for development projects against disasters and climate related risks. Both parties agreed to strengthen joints efforts and foster closer cooperation to mainstream Risk Informed Development (RID) across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s development landscape. Director General reiterated its commitment to aligning future initiatives with risk-sensitive approaches to ensure safe, inclusive and sustainable for all. The Director General was assisted by Project Director PEOC, Project Director GCC and other PDMA colleagues
